Great Yorkshire Show, Harrogate - 10 July 2012

The project for 2012 was to construct a series of bench seats at the end of the wall, which we built some years ago around the wildlife pond near the brown gate. As luck would have it, ground conditions were so atrocious following the recent prolonged spell of rain that the facilities staff were unable to deliver the stone for the build to the site, having to drop it off some 20 metres away at the top of a steep bank just inside the brown gate turnstiles.

It was decided therefore to build a small demonstration wall, which could be dismantled and the stone used on the original project at a later date, meaning the Guild members were able to have a little more time off to see other events at the Show, including the official opening at 3pm of the Memorial seat which we were commissioned to build at the show last year.

The rain held off just long enough for the ceremony to take place before resuming it’s then ‘usual’ torrential status, causing the gathered crowds to take cover in nearby stalls.

This year’s show ended abruptly that evening, when in the first time in its 154 year history the show was cancelled due to the weather
