Great Yorkshire Show 2016 - 5-7 July 2016
The Guild have been commissioned to start a new picnic area in the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate. The site for it is a prominent one, next to the Forestry Pavilion on the main avenue from Blue Gate, directly in front of the newly built £11.5m hall one, which was officially opened in June 2016.
Over the 3 days of the Show, a succession of Guild members constructed and completed a 6 metre bench seat made from sandstone supplied by Jacksons of Windy Hill Quarry at Barnard Castle. The seat and topstones are made from reclaimed Yorkstone paving flags, which were salvaged from the terrace behind the old hall one before it was demolished to make room for the new and extended hall.
The bench seat is phase one of the picnic area project and over the coming years there will be more seating, tables and raised planting areas constructed, to enhance this natural suntrap area of the showground for visitors to the ground to enjoy.
