Masham Steam Rally Showground

Over six years in the late 2000s, YDSWG built a demonstration wall using locally quarried limestone, with kind permission of the landowner, in the centre of the Masham Steam Rally Showground site, just off the Ripon-Bedale road. The wall is constructed in traditional Yorkshire style, and has been worked on by Guild members for two days at each of the previous six annual Rallies. The Guild also holds occasional training courses on the site

This section was constructed over a weekend of incessant torrential rain, and by the time the photographer had arrived, everyone had gone home for the day to dry out!

Guild members work to complete the back half of "Dennis' circle." Although the main roads on the site were a quagmire due to the recent monsoon weather, access was only available to 4 wheel drive vehicles and tractors - but we were snug and dry under our newly acquired gazebo - what a luxury!

Masham Steam Rally - 19-20 July 2008

This year saw the completion of the wall as far as we can go to the North, terminating at the horse jumps with a rectangular stone pillar.

Next year we will be starting on the south side of the field gate and working towards the Ripon-Masham road - a good few years work ahead yet!

Masham Steam Rally - 18-19 July 2009

Last year saw us complete the wall at the north end of the field.

Work started on the new wall at the south end of the field, starting at the Ripon-Masham road and working inwards, towards the existing wall. A good start was made, but we've got a fair bit of work ahead of us!
